Skinny Puppy Left To Fend For Herself In The Woods Is A Completely Different Animal Now

The first months in any animal’s life are incredibly formative, and they inevitably have a big impact on them later on. If they’re nurtured and loved, they tend to turn out to be fine pets, and if they’re neglected or abused it can lead to serious issues.

Some resilient animals, though, manage to overcome their early hardship and still turn out to be adoring, lovable critters that anyone would be lucky to have as a pet. Penny the puppy is the perfect example.

Abandoned in the woods by her owner at just three months old, Penny was ill and completely shut down emotionally by the time someone rescued her. With a little bit of care and love, however, Penny made a recovery that’s nothing short of miraculous!

Penny was found by a passerby after being dumped in the woods by her previous owner. The sick 3-month-old canine was then turned over to animal control, and they brought her to the veterinary hospital where Imgur user AlexBoBalex works.

The puppy was suffering from demodectic mange as well as a secondary infection, both of which caused her fur to fall out and her skin to be raw, scabbed, and swollen. She was in so much pain that she could barely move.

Penny slept a great a deal of the time when she first arrived at the hospital, having been exhausted by her illness and her time living in the woods. She was also starving and eager to fill her belly.

Soon enough, Penny got her first toy during her stay at the hospital, and even though she was really too weak to play with it, she wagged her tail and snuggled right up to the stuffed blue elephant!

Eventually, she regained enough strength to begin getting up and walking around more frequently. She also continued to eat very defensively at every meal as if she had no idea when the next one might come.

Penny was on several antibiotics, and with the combination of medicine, time, and proper nutrition, her infections began to clear up. Soon enough she was putting on weight, and her fur was growing back!

As her health improved, so did her mood, and before too long Penny was acting like the normal, rambunctious puppy that she really was at heart!

Alex had been documenting the recovery, and around this time she and her boyfriend decided to adopt the young canine when Penny was healthy enough to leave to animal hospital. When the day came to leave, they gave her a new collar and tags!

When Alex and her boyfriend first brought Penny home, the puppy had no idea how to react. She wasn’t used to such a calm, quiet environment and didn’t know what to do with so many toys!

Luckily she hit it off with her new sister, and pretty soon she began to get the hang of things. She slowly started to understand that her life was going to be much better and more relaxed from then on.

As time went on, Penny got more used to her new home and life. Among other things, they discovered that there was nothing she enjoyed better than going hiking and spending time outdoors!

The resilient pup has mostly managed to put her traumatic past behind her, but she always keeps her very first toy, the blue elephant, close by as if to have a reminder of those rough early months.

Less than a year after her initial rescue, Penny has come such a long way! It just goes to show that with a little love and proper care, even the most neglected animals can not only survive, but thrive!

Penny’s recovery really is miraculous! No animal should have to suffer like she did, but thank goodness she managed to come out of it all better than ever!
