Back in 2015, the story of Lana—the “saddest dog in the world”—went viral after a heartbreaking photo of her was published. Born in Mexico, the Labrador mix was the runt of her litter, and she had spent her entire life fighting to survive.
A glimmer of hope came after her story gained so much attention and she was adopted. Sadly, her good fortune wouldn’t last. After finding a home, Lana was, unfortunately, sent back to the shelter just a year later.
Unless she was adopted right away, she only had a few days left—or the unthinkable would happen.
When her story went viral in 2015 thanks to an emotionally charged photo that was published, Lana—the “saddest dog in the world”—had found a home. After years struggling to survive on her own, she was finally ready to be loved.
Sadly, however, it wasn’t made to last. See, Lana had grown up on the streets in Mexico as the runt of the litter. She’d had to fight her entire life just for a scrap of food, and as such, she was prone to snapping. She just wasn’t the family dog many hoped she would become.
In 2016, she was sent back to the shelter. “Lana’s adoption did not work out because people want a dog they can pet and play with,” Brenda Dobranski, the founder of Rescue Dogs Match, said in an interview. “Lana is a silly fun girl but she is not the type of dog that will let you give belly rubs to and sleep in bed with.” Sadly for Lana, this meant that her time to find a family was running out…
It was determined that Lana only had until May 20 to find a new home—or else it would be too late. “Unfortunately, euthanasia is an option,” Brenda explained. “But with all the time and support and money that has been offered to Lana I don’t even want to think about it.”
See how Lana’s story ends on the next page…
“The best family for her would be a mature couple or person that has the time, patience, determination, and commitment to help her become more confident,” Rescue Dogs Match wrote in a Facebook post.
Luckily, the internet was ready to come to her aid once more. After posting about Lana, Rescue Dogs Match was inundated with requests to adopt her. They had so many, in fact, that they had to continually narrow it down to the perfect candidate. They couldn’t get this wrong again!
Then, after whittling it down to the best three candidates, they made their pick. “Drum roll please: Lana was transported Monday to her new home,” Rescue Dogs detailed in another post…
“Lana’s new parents have reported she is still adjusting at this time but will be sending an update within the next two weeks.” Fingers crossed that this will, at long last, be Lana’s forever home! She seems pretty excited about it!
Wow, it’s so wonderful that the unthinkable was avoided, and Lana was again able to find a home. Hopefully, this is the right one, and she can get a new nickname—the world’s happiest dog!
