Intimate Details About Barbara Corcoran's Private Life People Never Knew

Since 2009, Barbara Corcoran has both fulfilled and shattered countless dreams as a Shark Tank judge, but a hit TV show isn’t her entire legacy. She’s a real estate mogul known for her work ethic, big personality, and some accomplishments that she likely wouldn’t be afraid to tell you about. While her business credentials may define her public image, there's a side of Barbara that she keeps well-hidden when the cameras aren't rolling, and most fans would be surprised to see it.

Measuring Up

In contrast to other high-powered business figures, Corcoran seems surprisingly human. "You give someone a sincere compliment about what their great gift is and they will always measure up,” Barbara said. Her loyalty to the people she works with is guided by her deep-seated belief in someone’s capacity to live up to their potential. Barbara has a great sense of what will succeed.

The Credentials

For 23 years, Barbara ran Corcoran Group, her New York City brokerage firm, before selling it for $66 million in 2001. While she was managing the company, it became the largest real estate group in the city. That was a huge milestone, as Barbara wasn’t exactly born into money.

Early Leader

Born in Edgewater, New Jersey, Barbara was the second of ten — she had four brothers and five sisters. Growing up, she put herself in charge of entertaining everyone. She put on plays in her parent’s basement, sold rocks to her siblings, and drew special chalk games.

Starting in Real Estate

When she was 23, she fell in love with Ramone Simone. They met while Barbara was a waitress at a diner. He lent her $1,000 so she could start her real-estate business, which she called Corcoran-Simone, and gave him an equity stake. Unfortunately, their relationship would end tumultuously.
