Can You Identify These Common Birds?

Birds. You either love them or hate them. While some people have ornithophobia (possibly worsened by Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds), others consider birdwatching, or "birding," a relaxing hobby that bonds them with nature. No matter what side of the spectrum you're on, you likely can't guess the names of even half of these feathered friends as the Earth holds approximately 9,000 to 10,000 species of birds! Good luck.

When you picture a duck, you probably picture this guy. These common pond ducks can be found throughout all of North America and Eurasia.

Though it's a woodland creature, this owl can survive practically anywhere trees grow, even in a city park.

These loud birds have likely finagled their way into your beach tote just to rummage through your Tupperware and steal your ham and cheese sandwich.

New Yorkers often call these brave, pesky guys "flying rats." They're also sometimes called (under much kinder circumstances) city doves.
