New Parents Get A Bewildering Update From Doctors That Changes The Family’s Future

No matter how much we try to perfectly plan the future, life is never truly in our control. That's what one couple from Maryland learned firsthand — for better or for worse. Nia and Robert knew they wanted to be together. They knew they wanted a family. But when life took the couple on a wild ride they never accounted for, word of their rare situation spread like wildfire across the country.

Love At First Sight

The Tolberts live in Waldorf, Maryland. The couple first met in 2007 through some friends. And for them, it was pretty much love at first sight. They started dating and in 2011 the Tolberts welcomed their first child – a boy named Shai.

Growing Family

However, the couple did not leave their family there. By the time they married in 2014, Nia was already pregnant once more, and this time she was expecting twins. The Tolberts welcomed their new additions in 2015, adding two more little boys, Alexander and Riley, to their home.

Three Kids Was Enough

With three children to their name, Nia and Robert decided that they had completed their family. “We did not plan to have any more pregnancies after the twins,” Nia told People in November 2017. However, it seemed the fates had other ideas.

Another Pregnancy

Nia discovered she was pregnant for the third time in August 2017. And straight away, the expectant mom realized there was something different about this experience. In particular, her morning sickness was more extreme this time around. As a result, Nia wondered if she had a girl on the way or even more twins.
