Thousands Of Criminal Cases Could Have Been Botched Due To One Lab Technician's Sinister Scheme

As a crime lab technician, Annie Dookhan played a huge role in determining a suspect's guilt by testing varying substances that were submitted as evidence. And while it was presumed by everyone that Annie was on the side of the law, it soon came out that that presumption couldn't have been farther from the truth. Unbeknownst to her colleagues, the young lab tech had launched a sinister scheme that led to thousands of botched criminal cases. Now, the justice system is scrambling to deal with the dire consequences.

No one suspected

When Annie Dookhan's name hit international headlines those who knew her could hardly believe it. The young woman had long been recognized as an over-achiever, and landing a position as a chemist at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health Drug Abuse lab only further confirmed her abilities. So what went wrong?

Brilliant mind

Before all the allegations, Annie was just a young girl born in Trinidad, who moved to Massachusetts with her parents at an early age. Growing up, Annie was always a precocious child who tended to excel at whatever she tried. She attended Boston Latin, an elite high school, and later majored in Biochemistry at the University of Massachusetts. Everything seemed promising.

Landing her first gig

After recieving her college degree, Dookhan was excited to start her first real job: she'd be testing narcotics at Hinton State Lab. Nobody could have anticipated that it would be here that the nightmare would begin to unfold...

Superwoman

At first everything seemed great. Annie was good at her job. So good, in fact, that one coworker even referred to her as a "superwoman" for her ability to go above and beyond in making sure things ran smoothly.
