20 Of The Shortest Marriages In Hollywood History
Seemingly few kinds of people treat marriage like a revolving door more than Hollywood celebrities. If you’re in the biz and you’ve only been married once, are you even doing it right? We are, of course, essentially making a frivolous point here, but the extreme brevity of the unions on this list will definitely give you pause for thought. Does the sanctity of marriage mean anything to many famous people? And is it even possible for celebrities to make a union work with the eyes of the entire world on them, analyzing their every move?
1. Jennifer Lopez and Cris Judd
When on the set of her music video “Love Don’t Cost a Thing” in 2000 Jennifer Lopez met dancer Cris Judd, she had already endured one short-lived marriage. Yet by September 2001 she was walking down the aisle again — before splitting only nine months later.
Judd’s father controversially claimed Lopez had cheated on his son with her new beau Ben Affleck, but in 2003 Lopez told Reader’s Digest, “I’m a very faithful person. If somebody had told me, ‘Ben’s attracted to you,’ I would have said, ‘No, I wasn't raised that way.’”
J Lo “doesn’t really count” her first two marriages
In a 2019 YouTube tour diary, Lopez told her fans that she doesn’t tend to acknowledge her marriage to Judd, nor her first nuptials. She said, “I've been married three times. And once was nine months, and once was 11 months. So, I don't really count those. I was very young the first two times I tried to get married.”
In fairness, though, Judd doesn’t have bad blood toward her. That same year he told TooFab, “Man, I’m so far removed from her. I have, gosh, you know, I just wish her the best.”
2. Jim Carrey and Lauren Holly
When Lauren Holly shot a screen test for Ace Ventura: Pet Detective with Jim Carrey, he had already been a fan of her long run as Julie Chandler on All My Children. She didn’t get that part, but the two later wound up working together on Dumb & Dumber — where they fell in love!
They married on September 23, 1996, amid some controversy: Carrey’s ex-wife Melissa Womer accused Holly of being a “homewrecker.” The union ended up lasting just nine months, though, with Holly filing for divorce on July 29, 1997.
Holly’s “heart was broken” by the divorce
The divorce was extremely tough on Holly, who in 2013 admitted, “No one ever really had the story right or anything. I was going through a heartbreak.” She also revealed relentless paparazzi attention wound up defining the ill-fated marriage.
Yet in 2019 she told Closer, “I’m still in touch with Jim. I only have the best memories of working with him.” As for Carrey, in 2008 he told Weekend magazine, “I probably won’t get married again. If you've done it twice, you really should stop doing it!”
